Summer Birdhouse Wreath

dsc_7387 dsc_7393 dsc_7397 dsc_7396 dsc_7394 dsc_7391Hi guys! I know it has been a while since I posted a tutorial here on the blog. I have had a bunch of things to share, but life has been a little crazy here lately. My pregnancy is really taking it out of me physically more than I had imagined it would. I am very grateful that it has been a healthy pregnancy though, so I can’t complain too much.  I am hoping to get back to a more normal schedule here very soon. Today I am going to share a diy wreath I made earlier this summer that I had a total blast making! I am constantly hoarding craft supplies, and one of the items that I found that I had a bunch of is those mini wooden unfinished birdhouses. I thought it would be fun to use up my supplies to make a fun wreath for the door this summer. Here is my how to…

Here’s What You Need:

*Little Wooden Birdhouses

*Vintage Wallpaper or Paper Scraps

*Craft Paint

*Mod Podge

*Paint Brushes

*Scissors

*Hot Glue

*Wooden Wreath Form

*Moss

*Fake Flowers, Miniature Decorations

*Ribbon

Instructions:

dsc_7030The first thing you need to do is paint your birdhouses with a base coat of white. Set aside to dry.

dsc_7033Pick out the papers you will use and decide which houses they will go on and where. Measure and cut your paper pieces to fit where you want them on your little houses.

dsc_7037Now you are ready to decoupage your houses with the papers. Apply a little mod podge with a brush. Smooth the paper onto the medium and smooth out and wrinkles or bubbles.

dsc_7178Next you can paint your birdhouses as you like. Once the paint is dry paint a layer of Mod Podge on top to seal them.

dsc_7180Once your birdhouses are decorated and dry you can lay them out on your wreath form. Play around with the arrangement until you like the fit. I bought a medium wreath form to fit the number of birdhouses I already had on hand. But if you are starting this project from scratch, find the wreath form size you like and then pick out the birdhouses to fit it at the craft store.

dsc_7179Now you are ready to glue. Glue each birdhouse from the back to the front of the wreath form. Glue them in the same order that you laid them out so they fit right.

dsc_7181Once your birdhouses are glued down you can add in your filler. Glue down bits of moss around and in between the houses until your wreath is full and you can’t see any of the form underneath.

dsc_7182 dsc_7183 dsc_7184Glue on your floral embellishments and minis where you like. To finish off your wreath, glue a loop of ribbon to the back of the wreath at the top.

dsc_7312 dsc_7315 dsc_7318 dsc_7326I love how my wreath turned out! It has been hanging on the inside of my front door all summer and has added a lot of fun to my living room. I know that fall is coming up next week, but I just had to share this summery wreath as a last hurrah to summer. I hope you all will add it to your list of summer crafting for next year. It was a ton of fun to make! I will be back soon with more DIY fun. Until then…

Happy Crafting!
