Hi Everyone! Welcome to day five of my 14 Days of Love! Today I have some fun valentine’s for you! I absolutely love vintage valentines! They are so cute! I love finding new and fun ways to use them too. So, I took some of my vintage cards, and also some digital files I have accumulated over the years and made fabric from spoonflower that has little circles of digital collaged valentine images. The fabric is cute on its own, but the circles make fantastic little patches that you can use to sew on whatever you like. I made them into Valentine’s to share with my family.

Here’s What You Need:

*Fabric( you can find mine Here)

*Blank Note Cards

*Thread and sewing machine

*Washi Tape and scissors

You can find my spoonflower fabric Here. The circles on my fabric are 3″ round when cut out. The first thing I did was cut out my patches. I did some leaving a little white space around them, and others where I cut flush to the edge. I like it both ways. Once you have your patches all cut out you are ready to sew. Center your patch where you like it on the front of your card. I believe my card size was 5×7. I did them horizontally, but you could do either way. Hold the patch firmly in place on top of your open card. Now, stitch around the patch with your sewing machine and snip excess thread. Now you can embellish with washi tape if you like. I added washi borders to the top and bottom of my cards. To get a nice smooth line at the ends, snip off excess with scissors. Now you can add your own message and they are ready to go.

IMG 0487 601x600 14 Days of Love DIY Stitched Valentines

I think these little valentines are very sweet! You could even hand stitch them if you like. You can use my fabric, make your own at Spoonflower, or even use cute prints cut out in the shape of hearts, etc. Whatever strikes your fancy. These little valentines will each be getting a hand written note, and delivered to my family for Valentine’s Day this year. You should give these a try yourself! They are so fun and really easy to make! Be sure to tune in on Monday for more Valentine’s fun! Have a lovely weekend!

IMG 0165 599x600 14 Days of Love Tutu Tassel Garland

Hi Everyone! Welcome to day 3 of my 14 Days of Love special! Today I have a super fun and easy DIY project for you, tutu garland. As some of you already know by now, I love garlands and buntings! I do at least one every season and on every holiday. For valentine’s day I wanted to make something sweet and airy. I have seen tassel garlands all over pinterest this past summer, and had originally thought of making one of those. Then I found this lovely tulle in spools at Papermart the other day and instantly knew it would make a fantastic garland!

Here’s What You Need:

*Tulle in spools of 6″ wide in your color choices

*Twine or Yarn

*Scissors and a Ruler

*Embroidery Floss

*Large eyed sewing needle

Instructions:

IMG 0439 313x600 14 Days of Love Tutu Tassel Garland

IMG 0440 800x524 14 Days of Love Tutu Tassel Garland

To make the tutu tassels you first want to cut the tulle ribbon in strips. I cut my tulle into 9″ long strips. It takes three strips of tulle to make one tutu tassel. So if you wanted to make a strand that has five red tassels, you would cut fifteen strips. Once you have cut all of the strips you wish to use you are ready to make your tassel. Lay out one piece of tulle on a flat surface, then stack the second skewed one way and the third skewed the other direction. Pinch all three layers as close to the center as you can with your fingers. Let the tulle layers drop and pinch the middle into a point. Tie embroidery floss of the same color as the tulle around the top of your tassel and knot it leaving a tail. Now wrap the top of the tassel several times and tie off with the tail of the first knot. Snip excess threads. Once you have made all the little tassles you want you are ready to string them. Cut a piece of twine however long you wish your garland to be. I think I made mine about 6-7 feet long. Thread one end of your twine with your large eyed needle. Now, insert the needle into the top of the tassel above the floss and pull it through until the tassel is near the end of the twine. Tie a knot around the tassel to keep it in place. Now repeat with the remaining tassels. You can string them all in a continuous row, or you can space them out by knotting around the tassel by looping and pulling the needle through to form a knot around the tassel as you go. Finish off the end with a knot and remove the needle. Now you are ready to hang your garland.

I LOVE how this turned out! I wasn’t sure if it was going to work well, but I have to say I think it is just lovely! This garland is so sweet and feminine. It is a perfect touch to add to your valentine decor. It would be fantastic for weddings too!  I hope some of you will give this one a try. It is really fun to make! Be sure to tune in tomorrow for more valentine fun! Until then….

Hey everyone! I had planned on starting this holiday series yesterday, but I just couldn’t get to it. So, today I will be posting two tutorials, yay! For the next couple of weeks I will be posting a new DIY every weekday until Valentine’s Day.  My first project to kick off the series is Finial Photo Holders. This project is really fast and easy! And all you need is a few inexpensive supplies.

Here’s What You Need:

*Wood Finials from the hardware store

*Colored thick gauge wire

*Paint

*Modge Podge or other sealer

*Drill

*Channel Lock Pliers

*Wire Cutters

*Round nose or needle nose pliers

IMG 0425 465x600 14 Days of Love DIY Finial Photo Holders

IMG 0426 519x600 14 Days of Love DIY Finial Photo Holders

IMG 0427 330x600 14 Days of Love DIY Finial Photo Holders

Instructions:

The first thing you want to do is remove the screw from the bottom of the wood finials. Lock onto the screw with your channel lock pliers and twist counterclockwise until the screw comes out. Now, with a skinny drill bit ( I used 1/16th inch) drill into the center of the top of the finial for inserting your wire. Prime your finials with white craft paint, and then paint your finials as you like them.I like to mix patterns like stripes and polka dots with solids and hearts. When your paint is dry, paint on a coat of sealer. I used modge podge matte. Now you are ready to add the wire. Cut a length of wire that is a little longer than your finial. bend your wire a little less than half way down at a 45 degree angle. Now, bend your wire around back towards the bottom to make the left side of the heart. Bend your wire back up and then bend around your pliers to make the second half of the top of the heart. Bend your wire around at an angle meeting and completing your heart shape at the bottom. Now, bend your wire back around a second time matching your first heart shape so that it matches and sits directly behind the first heart. Snip any excess wire from the heart end and then insert the bottom into the hole in the top you drilled earlier. Slide a photo or card in between the wire heart clip and you are finished.

These photo finials were really fun and easy to make! You can use them to display pictures, your favorite valentines, notes, or even a small calendar page. I love how sweet they look on a shelf all grouped together! The best thing about this project is that it is so easy to customize to your style just by varying the paint and wire colors. They would make fabulous gifts too! So go ahead and make one for your valentine this year!
