Happy Friday everyone! Welcome to day ten of my 14 Days of Love special. Today I have a pattern and tutorial for these sweet little lovey dovey felt chickens. I have always loved birds, but I am fast becoming a chicken lady. There’s nothing like looking out the window and seeing my gals tail up pecking in the yard. They are fantastic pets, and they warm my heart. My little felt hen and rooster are easy to assemble with fabric glue, although you could sew them instead if you have the time. I really enjoyed making these little guys! They whip up pretty fast too.

Here’s What You Need:

*Felt (2-3 colors)

*Pattern

*Embroidery Floss

*Feathers

*Thick gauge wire

*Fabric Glue

*Wire Tinsel Garland

*Pipe Cleaners

*1/4″ Dowel

*Paint

*Ribbon, trim, embellishments…

Instructions:

The first thing you need to do is cut out all of your pattern pieces. Draw in or embroider the eyes on the front head pieces. Now on the wrong side of the front head piece glue on the comb, waddle, and beak down facing out. Now glue the wing onto the front body piece. Next cut a long strip of wire and bend it in half loosely. Glue the wire into the back body where you want your legs to be. Glue a couple of feathers onto the back body tail end. Then put a generous amount of glue onto the back body piece over the wire and the feather ends too and glue the top body to the back body. Now add glue to the back head piece, and glue the body down onto the back head piece. Add more glue to the head and glue the top head to the back sandwiching in the body. Now you are ready to add the chickens to the dowel. I painted my dowel with regular craft paint. Once it dries lay out your hen and rooster where you like. I tried to make mine look like they were kissing. Wrap the wire around the dowel three times and then snip to about 1/2 inch or so and wrap around the leg at the bottom. Now twist three pipe cleaners together. Lay it out over the chickens and their perch and clip the excess pipe cleaner off. Now wrap the wire heart tinsel around the pipe cleaners leaving about an inch and a half on each end. Wrap this excess wire from the tinsel around each end of the dowel so the chickens are framed below the dome of the tinsel  wrapped pipe cleaner. Embellish with little hearts, flowers, etc. Now loop a length of ribbon and tie a few inches from the top for hanging.

I really like my little hen and rooster. They look like they love each other, don’t they? You could make these as little birds as well if you leave off the comb and waddle pieces. You can also change up the look by using different color felts, and embellishments. I think these little chickens would look so sweet hanging from a window or on a door. You could also use them as a mobile and hang over a crib or bed for your little one. I hope you all enjoy this free pattern! Be sure to tune in next week for more Valentine’s fun, including a giveaway. Have a fantastic weekend!

DIY Felt Peppermint Garland

IMG 5615 600x600 DIY Felt Peppermint Garland

IMG 5611 600x600 DIY Felt Peppermint Garland Hello there! I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend! We had some beautiful weather here in NC! Today I have something really fun and whimsical to share with you, DIY Peppermint Garland! This craft is so much fun! I had a blast making it! It does take some time, but I think it’s well worth it. It took me a couple of hours to make a strand that is about five feet long. I would love to make enough for it to go around my Christmas tree this year!

Here’s What You Need:

*Felt Sheets in Red and White

*Rotary Cutter and mat or Scissors

*Rulers

*White sparkly Pom Poms small

*Needle and Embroidery Floss

*Pliers

Instructions:

*Before I start, please excuse my embarrassingly fuzzy pictures. Apparently I wasn’t paying attention to the settings that night. I was debating whether to put them up or not, but it always helps to have a visual.

With a ruler and cutter and mat, cut 1/2″ strips of your red and your white felt. You will need one red and one white strip for each peppermint. Next you want to prepare your thread. Knot one end of thread and cut a long length to how long you wish your garland to be. Thread a pom-pom and slide it up to the knot. Now you can make a peppermint. Grab one strip of red and one of white felt. Stack them on top of each other and starting at one end tightly roll the felt until it is a swirly round peppermint. Now slide your peppermint onto the needle. If it is hard to slide the peppermint over your needle, use a pair of pliers and grip the needle with the pliers and pull the peppermint over the needle. This helped me a lot! Slide your peppermint down until it meets the pom-pom at the end. Alternate pom poms and peppermint shapes sliding them onto your thread until you have the whole strand filled. Then, knot the other end, and clip threads. If you have peppermints that are not even at the end, snip off the excess so they are even. And that’s it, now you are ready to hang and enjoy!

IMG 5610 541x600 DIY Felt Peppermint Garland

IMG 5616 600x600 DIY Felt Peppermint GarlandIsn’t that easy! I really love how it turned out! IF I have time I am going to make more for my tree. Otherwise it will probably hang over a window or a bed at home. You can make it as long or short as you wish so it is customizable to any space. You could also make a green peppermint if you want to change it up a bit. The other nice thing about this craft is that it is so inexpensive! I spent less than five dollars and I didn’t even use up all the felt and pompom. Overall I think this is a great, easy, fun, and cheap craft for a cold or rainy day. Make one while you watch a movie, and before you know it you’ll have a whimsical holiday treat for your home! Be sure to tune in tomorrow for more Christmas crafts!

DIY Patriotic Mini Bunting

dsc 0266 600x600 DIY Patriotic Mini Bunting

dsc 0264 622x600 DIY Patriotic Mini Bunting

Today I have a super easy and fun DIY for you, a mini flag bunting. This cute little patriotic bunting is an easy decoration to make for your upcoming Independence Day parties or barbeques. And the best part is that this craft is not only fun and easy, but also really inexpensive!

dsc 0192 800x561 DIY Patriotic Mini Bunting

Here’s what you need:

*Felt (I used printed felt I bought from I Love Felt 88 on Etsy Here)

*Scissors

*Twine or Yarn

*Glue (I used hot glue)

*Paper, ruler, and pencil

*Fabric marking pen

Step 1: Draw out your template- Using your ruler and pencil, measure and draw your template. I wanted my flags to be 1″x1 1/4″. Fold your paper in half, then measure down from the fold the length of the flag(1 1/4″) and draw a line, measure across the width of the flag(1″), then draw another line down to the length of the flag(1 1/4″). Draw a line across the bottom so you end up with a rectangular shape. Now, from the bottom measure up 1/2″, and draw a line. Then mark the center of the flag on that line(1/2″), and draw a line on each side from the middle to the bottom edges to make the ^ shape of the bottom of the flag. Cut out template and unfold.

dsc 0193 581x600 DIY Patriotic Mini Bunting

Step 2: Mark flags- Using a tracing pencil or fabric marker, trace around the paper template and repeat until you have the number of flags you wish to use. Cut out flags with fabric scissors.

Step 3: Glue- Cut a piece of twine or yarn the length you wish. Leave a tail for hanging or tying, then put a little glue on one half of your flag, slide under twine, and then close other end and squeeze to glue sides together. Repeat with other flags until you have the length you wish.

This craft is so easy and economical, and you can decorate with it any time, for any occasion by just changing your felt colors. I love the versatility! And this would be a great craft to do with your kids. Make a long bunting to decorate your mantel, or make a little one and tie it to two skewers to decorate a cake or pie display. So grab your glue gun, and let’s get crafting!

Step 2: Cut out circles and cut strips for loopy flower( a 3″ strip makes a large loopy or spikey flower)

Step 3: Cut the circles into spirals for rolled roses. Cut circles into spirals and then scallop cut the edges for more of a pretty petal rose. For Loopy flowers fold strip in half lengthwise and then cut small slits on folded edge. For a spikey flower, do the same as you would for a loopy flower but cut the loops in half at the top so you have two strips.

Step 4a: For loopy and spikey flowers start at one end and start rolling up tightly, continue rolling until you get to the end and you have it tightly wound on the bottom and a big pouf of loops or strips on the top. Secure with choice of glue.

Step 4b: For spiral and scalloped spiral start rolling up roses starting at the skinny point of the spiral where it starts. Roll tightly all the way keeping the bottom of the rose flat. Secure with your choice of glue.
