DIY Vintage Table Runner Pillow

DSC_6512 DSC_6510Hi guys! Life has been a little crazy here the last few weeks. I actually have spent the whole day today thinking it’s tuesday, imagine my surprise! I am busy getting something special ready for a friends baby shower this week, but before the week totally gets away from me I wanted to pop in and share a fun diy pillow idea with you guys. I had taken this vintage table runner and used it for a fabric wood stamping project earlier last year. It has a very boho vibe, and since my sister in law loves boho, I thought I would make a long bolster pillow with it for her for her birthday this year. Check it out:

Here’s What You Need:

*Vintage Table Runner

*Fabric for Backing ( I used some vintage sheet fabric)

*Ruler and marking pen

*Straight Pins

*Sewing Machine and thread

*Fiber Fill Stuffing

*Hand Sewing Needle and Thread

Instructions:

The first thing you need to do is cut your backing fabric. Measure your table runner. Mine was 11×49. So I added seam allowance to that 1/2″ on each side and added that to my original measurement. So my backing was 12×50″. Mark it and cut it out.

Now fold your raw edges in towards the wrong side of the fabric by a half an inch and press the fabric in place. Now all your raw edges will be concealed and you should have a back piece that is the same size as your runner.

Pin the runner on top of the backing fabric with wrong sides touching. Pin all the way around.

Now you are ready to sew. Start in the middle of the bottom of the pillow. Top stitch as close to the edge as possible. Stitch across half the bottom, then pivot and stitch up the side, then pivot again and stitch across the top, then pivot and stitch down the other side, then pivot one more time and stitch across the bottom again stopping several inches before the origin so you have room for stuffing.

You should now have a pillow case with a small hole in the bottom for stuffing. Stuff the pillow with your polyfill. It took me about 1.5 bags of fill for this pillow.

Now whipstitch the opening in the bottom of the pillow closed with your hand sewing needle and thread.

DSC_6513 DSC_6514 DSC_6516 DSC_6518I think this pillow turned out to be super fun! I am looking for a runner that is just right for my bedroom space to make another one for myself! I think my sister will love her pillow, it looks like her, and I think it has all of her favorite colors. I hope you all will give this a try sometime! It’s so easy to whip up and really fun. The best part is that it takes about an hour or less from start to finish so you can make a few in an afternoon! I’ll be back soon with more diy fun. Until then…

Happy Crafting!

Love this project. Now I have to dig out all my old (Vintage) table runners and make pillows.
