Deerly Loved Lighted Garland

DSC_6898 DSC_6900 DSC_6901 DSC_6902 DSC_6922Hi guys! I am really excited to share today’s diy with you guys! During the holidays I found the most fantastic string lights at Bass Pro. I couldn’t resist and bought the deer lights and camper lights as I was just in love with them! I love string lights, but what I don’t love is the ugly wire cords they have. So I decided to make a tied fabric and doily garland with them. Check it out:

Here’s What You Need:

*Fun String Lights

*Fabric Scraps

*Rotary Cutter and Self Healing Matt

*Quilting Ruler

*Three Doilies for each strand

*Fabric Glue

Instructions:

DSC_6847The first thing you will want to do is add your doilies. Grab your lights and stretch them out gently to get any kinks out. Decide where you want your doilies. I chose to do a doily every third space.

DSC_6848DSC_6849Lay the doily out flat and apply several drops of fabric glue on the bottom half of the doily.

DSC_6850Then fold the doily around the light strand folding it in half and gluing the doily halves together. Do the same thing with your other doilies. Then, set the lights aside to let the glue dry completely.

DSC_6846Now you are ready to make fabric strips. Cut one inch strips of your fabric with your ruler, rotary cutter and matt. You will want the strips to be 1″ by around 15″ long. Cut several strips. I think I used about 100 for each strand of lights.

DSC_6851 DSC_6852 DSC_6853 DSC_6854Once your strips are cut you are ready to add your strips. Fold your strip in half, then wrap the fabric around the wire. Insert the two tails of the strip through the loop in the top of the halved strip. Then pull through and tighten the knot at the top of the wire. Continue adding strips to the wire until you have completely covered your exposed wire strand areas.

DSC_6909 DSC_6904 DSC_6906 DSC_6912 DSC_6911I LOVE my string lights now! I made a set of happy camper lights for my craft room, and a set of lovely deer for my bedroom. The garlands are fantastic on their own, but when you light them up they are just stellar! I love the funky style they add to my decor! I hope you all will give this a try sometime with some novelty lights that you love! I’ll be back soon with more diy fun. Until then…

Happy Crafting!
