Vintage Christmas Wrapping Paper Galvanized Ornament

tin ornaments copyDSC_5884DSC_5870 DSC_5889 DSC_5867HI guys! Today is my last Christmas Kitschmas diy decorating tutorial of my kitschmas series. I will be starting some fun diy kitschmas gift ideas next week, ten days of kitschmas gifts! Today I am going to share a fun diy Christmas ornament with you guys for your tree this year. I found these fun galvanized tin ornaments at Michaels this year and thought they would be super fun to decorate. Here is how I made mine:

What You Need:

*Galvanized Tin Ornaments ( I bought mine at Michaels)

*Vintage Christmas Wrapping Paper or Paper Ephemera

*Pipe Cleaners

*Christmas Minis, little ornaments, etc

*Ribbon or String

*Mod Podge Matte

*Paint Brush

*Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks

*Pencil

*Scissors

*Jewelry Snippers

*Awl

Instructions:

DSC_5778The first thing you need to do is trace your ornament onto the back side of your wrapping paper with your pencil. Cut out the shape cutting on the inside about an eigth of an inch before the line.

DSC_5779Paint a thin layer of Mod Podge onto the back side of your paper. Smooth onto the inside of your ornament. Paint a thin layer of the Mod Podge onto the top to seal. Do the same with the back of the ornament.

DSC_5780Now you need to glue on your pipe cleaners. Glue one end of the pipe cleaner down to the bottom inside edge of the ornament. Shape the pipe cleaner around the inside, glueing down as you go. Add more if you need to. Snip off any excess at the end. Do the same with the other side of your ornament.

DSC_5781Now you need to add any embellishments like your little minis or ornaments. I used a little plastic deer and some vintage little wooden ornaments. Glue them down to the ornament where you like. Make a bow out of your ribbon. Snip ends close. Glue to the top of your ornament. Make and glue another bow to the other side if you want. Now take your awl and find where your hole was. Punch the awl through and make another hole where the first was covered up.  String ribbon or twine through and tie in a loop for a hanger.

DSC_5860 DSC_5862 DSC_5879 DSC_5876Aren’t they fun! I love the tin and the patterns of my vintage wrapping together! I used vintage wrapping paper but you can use any kind of paper you like. Get creative and make it your own! They are really easy to customize. I think they look fabulous on a tree but look equally as cute hanging from a window or door. I hope you all will snag some of these at the craft store and give this diy a try this year! It is a lot of fun and I love mine! I’ll be back next week with some vintage handmade gifts for everyone on your holiday list! Until then…

Happy Crafting!

I’d add glass over them to give them some weight and sparkle!

The little wooden ornaments I bought at the flea market. They are vintage. The deer I bought at michaels, which is actually a vintage reproduction. I think some craft stores sell the little wooden ornaments sometimes with their mini tree sections 🙂
