Some of you all know by now, I love making lamps and lampshades! I also have a total obsession with vintage linens and have bunches of cutters in my stash. I recently came across a shabby Christmas tablecloth with a fantastic design that I knew would be perfect for a lampshade. You can grab an old shade from your own home, or pick one up at the thrift store for a few dollars. Lampshades are so easy to cover and upcycle into something fabulous! Β Here’s the how-to…

Here’s What You Need:

*Old Lampshade

*Ruler

*Scissors

*Hot Glue

*Trim

*Iron

*Basting Spray

Instructions:

The first thing you need to do is measure and cut your fabric. Measure your lampshade all the way around width wise and also measure the height. Cut your fabric to be the width of your shade plus an inch by the height plus a few inches. Cut out your fabric piece and turn under the raw edges and press.

Spray your shade with the basting spray. Lay your fabric over the shade as evenly as possible. Smooth out the fabric around the shade.

Glue down the edges where your ends meet on the back of the shade.

Fold up and glue the bottom edge of the fabric to the inside bottom edge of the shade little by little all the way around. Do the same thing with the top excess fabric.

I absolutely love my Christmas lamp! The shade just shouts my style and it looks amazing in my living room! I can’t wait to see it when the whole room is decorated! This is a fantastic weeknight craft! You can find great vintage tablecloths at the flea market or online on sites like Etsy and Ebay. So grab up a shabby old cloth and some trim and cover an old shade for your holiday home this year! I’ll be back tomorrow with more holiday fun! Until then…

Happy Crafting!

Not sure if I missed it somewhere, but was the base blue when you bought it or did you paint it? If you painted it, was there a certain technique you followed?

I love this. And what a great way to salvage a stained table cloth. I have a vintage one of my mothers and would love to do something like this. Thanks for the inspiration.
