DIY Painted Sneakers

Hey guys! Happy Thursday! Only one more day to go to the weekend! I am hoping the sun comes out so we can take Beau on a little hike. As some of you may already know, my baby sister Hannah graduated highschool this summer and will be heading off to UNC-Asheville in just a few weeks. Hannah and I are really close, and I have been making her stuff to take with her that will be special to her and remind her of moi. I’ve made a few things for her dorm room, but I wanted to make her something she could wear also. A couple of years ago Hannah got me into watching Dr. Who (my doctor is the 10th in case you were wondering). It is such a fantastic show, and we have a great time watching it together when she is at my house. So, I recently came across these navy blue vans knock offs at Walmart and a little lightbulb went off in my head, yeah Tardis Sneakers! These are really easy to make. Trust me if I can do it, anyone can! I stink at painting! I had a blast making them!

Here’s What You Need:

*Sneakers

*Tissue or a towel to stuff in the toe

*Craft Paint/ Fabric Paint ( I used Martha Stewart craft paint from Michaels)

*Paintbrushes

*Sharpie Paint Markers

Instructions:

The first thing you need to do is stuff your sneakers with some tissue or a towel to fill out the shoe area so it doesn’t buckle and shift while you are painting. I used a lighter blue sharpie paint pen to draw out the shape of my tardis and write the wording with. You could transfer the design with marking paper if you want a more detailed look. I didn’t mind mine looking a little “folksy” in style. Now you are ready to paint. I painted the larger blue parts of the tardis and the shading first. Then I painted the white areas on top. I also painted the stars and the “Allons-y” going over the lines I had marked with the sharpie earlier. Once I had all my blue and white painted, I let the paint dry for a while. Once the paint is dry you can add any details in with a sharpie paint like the black outlines and lettering on the tardis. You can seal the paint with a light coat of sealer if you like. And they are ready to wear.

Needless to say Hannah absolutely LOVES her new Tardis sneakers! I love them too and I think I will probably have to make a pair for myself now too! You can really get creative with painting your sneakers. Customize them with your favorite characters, flags, quotes, or even just a simple pattern like a polka dot. I will definitely be painting more shoes soon. Maybe my next pair will be Sherlock themed. The best thing about this fun diy is that you can make a pair for under ten or fifteen dollars when you buy the knock off brand at Target or Walmart. Have any of you guys ever painted your sneakers? Share them with me on facebook! I can’t wait to see what you all make! I’ll be back next week with more fun summer projects. Until then…

Happy Crafting!

You know I’m surprised because you say you like Doctor Who, but abbreviate it to Dr. no for future reference, it is DOCTOR NOT Dr.

Would someone who doesn’t like the show and has no earthly painting skills whatsoever spend a couple of hours painting a pair of sneakers? I love the show, I am not particular about particulars however. And speaking of Who’s, I am a fan the “The Who” and it doesn’t bug me when people call “Baba O’Riley” “Teenage Wasteland”, I am just glad they love the song too. Fandom is about sharing the love….
And FYI- even “The Doctor” is named as “Dr. Who” in the credits of the first few seasons(Classic Series). I am old school, yo 😉
