Hi everybody! As many of you know, I have a small obsession with vintage wallpaper. I LOVE it! I love the prints and the textures of the different papers! They are great for a variety of projects or scrapbooking. Today I am going to share with you how to recycle your tin cans into cute utensil or pencil cups with just a little paint and wallpaper scraps. It is so darn easy, and this is a great project you can do with a group!
Here’s What You Need:
*Tin Cans (I used regular sized soup cans for my straws and a large diced tomato can for my plastic silverware)
*Spray Paint (Any kind of paint will do, I use spray paint because it is so fast)
*Wallpaper Scraps and Border Scraps
*Double Stick Tape
*Twine, Yarn, Ribbon
Instructions:
The first thing you need to do is wash and dry your cans. Once they are clean and food free you can spray paint them in your choice of color or you can paint them by hand with a brush and craft paint. I like spray paint because it is so fast, and it dries in like ten minutes. Let your painted cans dry. Once the cans are dry, decide on the wallpaper patterns you would like to use. Cut a strip that is a few inches wide and long enough to go around your can with a little overlap. You can piece it if your paper scrap is not long enough. Apply strips of tape to the wrong side of your paper at the ends. Tape down one end on the back of the can centering it in the middle. Then wrap the paper around and tape down the other side overlapping the first end slightly. Now find a border piece of wallpaper that will go around your can but is not as wide as the first piece you taped down. Tape the border on the can centering it int he middle of the first strip of paper. To add a finishing touch, cut a long length of twine or yarn and wrap around the can several times and tie in a little bow in the front. Snip any excess and you are finished. Now fill your cans and enjoy!
I just adore how simple and easy these little storage cans are! You can make a bunch of them and organize your art supplies, or use them as little gift baskets for candy. Or, you can do like I did and use them for straws and utensils at a party. I’m sure there are so many other uses out there for these little containers!
