Mini Egg Landscapes

I recently spent some time searching around pinterest for an Easter round up, which you can see here. One of my favorite projects was these fantastic little eggshell planters from the sweet blog Le Robin’s Nest. I was so inspired by these sweet planters, and having no shortage of eggs around here, I decided to try some out. These are so sweet and really fun and easy to make!

Here’s What You Need:

*Eggs

*Egg carton

*Potting Soil

*Moss, succulents, etc…

*Miniatures like mushrooms, vintage deer, stamens from flower picks, cupcake toppers, etc…

*Paint (optional)

Instructions:

If you would like to use succulents, you can follow along with Le Robin’s Nest. I made mine with moss because there is plenty of it growing naturally around here. So, the first thing you do is crack your eggs. Try to crack them about a third of the way down from the top. Set aside the larger half, throw away the smaller half and save the eggs in a bowl for something yummy later. Carefully wash your egg shells. Let them dry. If you want to paint the carton, now would be a good time to do so. I painted just the inside of my carton. You will want to cut the bottom off from the top and cut the flap off as well. It looks nicer that way. So once your shells are dry and your carton is ready, you are ready to decorate. First spoon in some potting soil into the egg shell. Next pull off a snippet of moss to fit inside on top of the soil. Place your mossy egg into the carton. Repeat with the other egg shells. Once you have your eggs filled you can embellish them with any trinkets you may like. I used some mini mushroom millenary picks, some vintage mini plastic deer, and a little dwarf cake topper and his garden accessories, as well as a few paper flowers and stamens. You can really get creative here and customize them to your style.

Aren’t they fun! I LOVE them! These little eggs make a great addition to my spring decor. You can really customize them to your own taste by the fillings you add to the eggshells. I left my eggs natural. My Rosie lays the most beautiful blue eggs! I hope some of you will give this little project a try this spring! And be sure to go check out Le Robin’s Nest here for more inspiration!

Happy Crafting!

adorable! i especially love the whimsy in only painting the top of the carton. how long do you think the moss will last? i’ve got some growing around the tiny casa…must try! thank you!

Thanks so much all of you! I am not sure how long the moss will last. I know that when it does dry out it stays nice and green. I would guess that if you water it a little here and there it would stay fresh. I’d try watering it with an eye dropper. Hope that helps 🙂

hey there! I was wondering where you get those miniatures? This project is super adorable! But I don’t have any craft stores in my town that sells those cute miniatures 🙁

Hi Elyna! It’s been a while, but I believe I bought them at hey yo yo. Check out the cake toppers at http://www.heyyoyo.com The gnome and garden tools was part of a snow white and the seven dwarves topper set, and I bought the mushrooms there too. The deer are vintage, and you can sometimes find them on etsy and ebay. They have larger deer at hey yo yo too. Hope this helps 🙂

  7. What to do with those plastic eggs! | The Party Pirate Blog

[…] Mini Gardens: Use your egg halves to create mini gardens, fill with a little soil and then sprinkle some seeds – grass, cress or small flowers. Or if you don’t fancy getting muddy, fill with play dough and push in little plastic, pipe cleaner or tissue flowers instead, either way your little ones are sure to be delighted with their creations and they make great Easter decorations. https://www.mysocalledcraftylife.com/2013/03/21/mini-egg-landscapes/ […]
