Easter baskets can be so much fun to put together! The last few years I have been making them for my sister. My mom still makes them for me and my hubby as well as my dad and sister. It’s always so fun! Sometimes putting together a basket that really cute can be quite costly, and the cheapies you can get at the store are usually tacky. So if you are looking for an easter basket that is packed with sweetness but not with a heavy price, I have a craft for you. Today I am going to show you how to make a sweet yarn wrapped easter basket from a dollar store easter bucket.
Here’s What You Need:
*Dollar store easter bucket
*Yarn (I bought mine at A.C. Moore for a dollar each)
*Hot Glue
*Paper flowers (optional)
Instructions:
Start at the bottom of your bucket. Dab hot glue onto the bottom and glue down the end of your yarn to the bucket. Now glueing every inch or so start to circle your yarn around the bottom a little before the edge. Keep going around gluing your yarn, coiling it around and right next to the previous bit. Once you get around the curve of the bottom you can glue once or twice with every passing wrap. Wrap the basket firmly and keep the strands close together so you don’t see any of the basket peeking through. Go all the way up to the top and glue the end down when you are done wrapping. If you have excess yarn clip it as close to the bucket as possible. My yarn was a mini skien so I used the whole thing on my bucket and was able to wrap it around a few extra times. I took my handle off of my bucket to wrap it. Place a dab of hot glue on the inside of the handle at one end. Glue your end of yarn down. Now wrap the handle glueing every few inches. Snip off excess thread and glue end down. Put the handle back on the bucket. The bucket I used was scalloped at the top, so I used paper flowers to fill in the areas I could not easily get with my yarn. You can hot glue any kind of embellishment or tim you like around your top edge of your bucket, or you can leave it simply wrapped. Now your basket is ready to fill with goodies!
This project was really fun! I think I am going to have to think of other things to wrap in yarn now too since I really enjoyed this one! This basket whipped up in under an hour. It only cost me three dollars for the bucket and the yarn. The flowers I had on hand. But this goes to prove that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to have a sweet and chic Easter basket. All it takes is a little time and a few supplies. I hope I have inspired some of you to give this one a try for Easter this year. It’s so fun!
