14 Days of Love- DIY Embroidered Mats

Hi Everybody! Welcome to day six of my 14 Days of Love Special! Today I have a sweet diy for you, hand embroidered mats. This diy is cute and pretty easy. The best thing about this project in particular is that it is completely customizable! I LOVE to find new mediums to embroider on, so I was just giddy to try this idea out.

Here’s What You Need:

*Ready Made Mat

*Sharp Awl

*Sewing Needle

*Pliers(optional)

*Embroidery Floss

*Pencil

*Frame

Instructions:

The first thing you want to do is draw out your design. I drew out my words and heart doodles with a fine pencil onto my mats. Now punch little holes about every quarter-inch around your words and designs. Thread your needle and start stitching. I used a basic back-stitch(tutorial Here,) but you can do any kind of decorative stitches you like. The basic concept is to just punch your holes where you will need to send your needle through to form your stitch. You can use a pair of pliers to help you pull the needle through your holes if it is hard on your finger. I used a slim needle. Once you have finished stitching, knot your end and snip off the excess. Now tape a picture into your mat, and assemble into your frame. Enjoy.

I love my little mats! They give an extra homey sweetness to some of my favorite pictures! You can make these with any number of designs, words, quotes, etc. Whatever you like. These would be great any time of year too, or for any season or occasion. It’s a simple, inexpensive, and sweet diy. It would make a great heartfelt gift for your most favorite Valentine too! I hope I have inspired some of you to try it out, you’ll have a blast! Be sure to tune in tomorrow for more sweet Valentine’s Day projects! Until then…

Happy Crafting!
