Anthro Inspired Party Animal Necklaces

There are so many lovely diy’s you can do with little plastic animals these days going around pinterest! I originally saw this Anthropology knock off diy on Flamingo Toes Here. I loved these little necklaces and thought they were a lot of fun! I thought they would be a great craft to ring in the New Year, and they also are perfect for a gift for my sister-in-law whose 18th birthday is today! The original Anthropologie necklaces and the Flamingo Toes featured circus themed animals. Here is my version:

These are really easy to make, all you need is plastic animals, trims, and beads. You can use hot glue or e6000 to glue the trims. I decided to make all of my animals gals with skirts, party hats and princess crowns.Β To make the crowns, I used bead caps and little beads inside, and the party hats are vintage lucite flower beads upside down with a seed bead glued on top. The skirts are made out of scrapbooking trim that I had from Websters Pages. You just glue them around the body and snip in the back. You can add crystals as accents too. To make these little gals into necklaces, you can twist in small eye hooks. I bought these tiny eye screws at the craft store in the jewelry section. Once you have screwed in your eye, string the pendant on your choice of chain. I used a tiny ball chain for mine. And voila! Easy right!

I love these little necklaces! They are really easy to make and they are really inexpensive to make as well. You can customize them with your own style by using different beads and trims. I know these are a little too funky for some people, but I love them! They are right up my alley! If they are your style too, give em’ a try. I bet you’ll love them too!

Happy Crafting!

Oh my gosh these are just the cutest! I keep coming back here to look at them, every detail is so much fun. Makes me happy.

Where do you purchase your animals?

I keep coming back here to look at these because they are so happy! I love goats so that one is my fave, but I really love them all. Great job. What kind of paint did you use? Where did you purchase the plastic animals?

Aw, thank you Sue! So glad you like them πŸ™‚ I bought my animals from AC Moore, but you can also find them at Michaels, and there is a different brand at tractor supply. I bought a couple of tubes since I plan on making more. They are around $8 a tube, which you can usually get half price with a coupon. The paint I used was regular acrylic craft paint. I didn’t want any shine on these, but I do think they need a little sealer like modge podge or clear spray paint to keep the paint looking perfect. I already have a smudge on the goat, so I will be touching it up and spraying it soon. Hope this helps. Happy crafting πŸ™‚

Too CUTE!!! The embellishments did a great job in bringing colors to the little animals. I love the hedgehog and goat the most.
Just curious, did you add the polkadots and the pink blue skin for the goat yourself? (Because the results are just lovely!) Thanks for sharing this!

If I knew where you lived, I would totally come and knock you down and steal the corgi.

And I mean that in the nicest possible way. ~grins~

These are adorable, but how did you get the small eye hooks into the animals? I have 2 different types of them and it’s not possible to screw an eye hook in, the plastic is so hard and the eye hook is so small. Got any tips?

    • My So Called Crafty Life

Hi Tamra, the eye screws I used were from the jewelry section at Joann’s. they are pretty small and it took quite a bit of pressure to screw them in. I would suggest drilling a pilot hole in the top of the animal with a bit that is slightly smaller than the screw. That should help get it started and then you can use pliers to help twist it in if needed. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions πŸ™‚

MUST. HAVE. THE. CORGI!!! Oh my heavens to Betsy, these are the most adorable little things. Came over from Free Pretty Things For You. Love your site. I could spend all day wondering around here. Seriously, if you still have the corgi one I would love to buy it. It looks just like my little man.

Oh, thank you so much! You’re so sweet πŸ™‚ I actually do still have the corgi. I was planning on selling these at a show over memorial day and was going to be asking $15 a necklace. I am happy to send this little guy your way if you’d like him. Hope you have a great day!
