DIY Recycled Jar Snowglobes

Looking for a fun craft to do with the kiddos this holiday season? These DIY snowglobes are the ticket! I first saw these in one of Martha Stewart’s Magazines and knew I wanted to try it someday. I recently came across the pin on Pinterest and decided it was time to give it a go. I really have to say it was so easy! And fun too! I had some sweet vintage tchotchkeys to use as well as some fun cupcake toppers. The best thing about these is that if it is waterproof like plastic or ceramic, you can use it, so the possibilities are endless.

Here’s What You Need:

*Mason Jars, Baby food Jars, etc

*Waterproof toys or figures

*Glitter

*Glycerin

*Epoxy or non water soluble glue

*Distilled Water

*Spray Paint

*Dish Soap

Step 1: Prep the jars- First you want to remove the labels. The easiest way to do this is to soak the bottles in hot soapy water for a little bit. The labels usually come right off. Now spray paint the inside and outside of the lid with your desired color. You can also paint stripes or dots to the top if you like with craft paint.

Step 2: Add Figures to the jars- Glue the figures or toys down to the inside of the lid. Let glue or epoxy dry completely.

Step 3: Finish off your snowglobes- Pour distilled water in your clean jars until it reaches just about the top. Add a bit of glitter and a few drops of glycerin to the water. You can add more water until the level reaches the top if you need to. Now, put the lid on and screw shut tightly. Shake and enjoy!

This craft really is so simple to do! It would be a great family project to do together, or you could make them as gifts. I like how mine turned out. I would like to have had something in the bottom to raise my figures up a bit so I could see them better. Maybe next time. They have a fun holiday vibe to them and they look sweet in a group or mixed in with your other holiday decor. If you’d like to see the original from Martha, check it out Here. I hope some of you will try these out, you won’t regret it!  Be sure to tune in next week for more Christmas fun!

Happy Crafting!

These are adorable and would make great gifts. Questions: Why do you have to use glycerin and where can I get it? Thanks for this idea!!!

Thank you Kristin! You can buy glycerin at the drug store. According to Martha it makes the glitter not fall to the bottom so fast and stick together. It isn’t necessary, but is nice to have if you can find it.
