DIY Cute Vintage Christmas Card Boxes

Christmas is by far my most favorite holiday of the year! I love holiday decorating, holiday parties, and most of all, making cute christmas goodies for my home! This month I will be featuring a new holiday project each weekday for a countdown to Christmas. To kick off all the Christmas fun today I have one of my favorite holiday DIY’s for you, Christmas Boxes. These cute little diorama style boxes add such a sweet touch to your holiday decor! And they are seriously so fun to make!

Here’s What You Need:

*Wood Boxes with windows from the craft store( I bought mine at AC Moore)

*Paint

*Old Christmas Cards

*Scrapbook Paper

*Rubber Cement

*Little Christmas Trinkets

*Air Dry Clay

*Modge Podge

*Glitter

*Pipe Cleaners

*Hot Glue

Step 1: Paint Box- Paint your box with your choice and color of paint. I have fallen in love with Annie Sloan chalk paint, and painted my boxes with it. Regular craft acrylic paint will work just fine as well. You can seal it with an acrylic varnish or modge podge. Or if you decide to use chalk paint you will need to wax it.

Step 2: Cut and Glue Inside Pieces- Measure the insides of your box. Cut down your card to fit the bottom of the box. Cut scrapbook paper to cover all the sides. If you have a card that is too small, cut a couple of pieces of scrapbook paper to add behind your card. I used rubber cement to attach my papers to the box. Spread glue onto the back side of your paper and spread glue to the inside of the box. Then press and smooth paper down into box. Once glue is dry you are ready to decorate your diorama.

Step 3: Embellish Inside Box- Now you are ready to add trinkets to the inside of your box. If you want to create a snow scene, you can mold a layer of clay into the bottom of the diorama. Insert any figures or trees into the clay to make holes, then you can add glitter. To add glitter paint down modge podge onto the clay and pour and shake glitter on top. Tapp out excess glitter. Add the figures back into the clay and let everything dry.

Step 4: Finish- If you would like to add a border around your window opening, carefully hot glue a pipe cleaner around the opening. Close your box up and it’s done. Easy right!

I absolutely love these little boxes! They look sweet by themselves, but also look adorable as a group. I had such a blast making them I made several! I bet you can’t make just one either. The best part about this project is that it is so customizable to your own tastes. The cards you use make each box a little world of it’s own. I used vintage cards and trinkets, as well as some vintage looking bottlebrush trees and cupcake toppers. Take a peek around etsy for miniatures, they have a lot to choose from. Overall this is a fun and inexpensive way to add some fun to your holiday decor this year. I hope you all enjoy! Be sure to tune in tomorrow for more Christmas fun!

Happy Crafting!

where do you find the little plastic deer? I have been looking for them everywhere and can not find them.
    Thanks,
    Pamela

Oh, these deer are just the best! They are vintage and I bought them off of etsy a couple of years ago. I am now wishing I had bought the whole lot, since I am now down to only two. You can try searching around the internet for them on etsy, or ebay. They are plastic vintage miniatures. Apparently they are pretty rare since I have not been able to get my hands on any this season. Best of luck searching! I will post if I find anymore.
