Local Gems- The Go Girl Shoppe

Today I have something really special I want to share with you, one of my favorite local finds, The Go Girl Shoppe. The Go Girl Shoppe is the most fabulous travelling shop around town! Meghan Wagner, the shoppe owner who is just as sweet as her darling wares, sets up shop in a vintage 1976 Shasta travel trailer. Her camper is really adorable, and is the perfect backdrop for the amazing products she sells. There is a little bit of everything from jewelry and tea towels, to frames, garden accessories, and some amazing home decor items. Everything has a vintage or repurposed feel to it. It is just so flippin’ fantastic, like eye candy! I just want to buy everything!

Meghan’s travelling shoppe frequents the Raleigh Flea Market, which is where I first saw her. I was really excited when she agreed to do a little interview! Here’s what she had to say:

1- What is the story behind your fabulous camper?  I always wanted to start and own my own business.  I come from a family of business owners, so it’s in my blood. I wanted to open something fun and different.  Being in a mall gets boring day in and day out, but when your shop is always on the move, you get to be in a different location at all times, and meet new people.  We are bringing our items to our customers.

2-What is your favorite item in your shop that you make or sell?  I honestly have to say everything in the shop is my favorite.  I pick items that I know that I would love, therefore I own my self.  I get so much joy seeing other people’s faces that I once expressed when they find that unique treasure.

3-If you could have a shop anywhere in the world, where would it be?   Mmm  you stumped me.  Haha.  This is tough. I don’t know about the world but I would love to have a little shop in Blowing Rock, NC.  I know it sounds crazy, but I went to school there (Appalachian).  There is something about the culture/atmosphere.  It is clam and relaxing but at the same time has that small college town vibe. The community is wonderful and supports it’s local businesses.

4-You obviously love vintage, do you have a favorite era or decade?  I think all decades contribute something to our society today.  What was once popular in the past may fade out and become a fad however most of the time it usually will come back in style just in a different era.  I can’t really pin point one decade I really like better than the other.  I love all things vintage.  Right now I really love finding vintage charms from the 20’s.  There so romantic and chic.

5-What is your favorite thing to do when you are not working on your lovely shop?  When I am not working in the shop, I love to go to flea markets.  They are so much fun. There is something about digging through a pile of stuff, and uncovering something wonderful.  It is like finding buried treasure.  I love the thrill of the hunt.  I love all things vintage and quirky.

6- Do you have any advice for up and coming artists who want to start a business? Follow your dreams.  It is hard work but if you really want something bad enough you just have to go for it.  There are always going to be people telling you, that you can’t do it and sometimes the biggest obstacle is yourself however in the end, it pays off. My reward is seeing other people who get excited about the shop as much as I am seeing their faces when we are out in the public.

Luckily you do not have to live in NC to get something awesome from The Go Girl, you can visit The Go Girl Shoppe on Etsy Here for all kinds of fantastic goodies! Also be sure to visit the Go Girl Blog Here, and you can keep up with shop news and where you can find this travelling wonder next on Facebook Here as well. Today is Meghan’s birthday,so stop by and wish her a happy one! And if you are in NC you can see the Go Girl Shoppe next at the New Bern Mum Festival this weekend October 13th and 14th. Be sure to check it out, you’ll be glad you did!

Happy Shopping!
